The best bike tours in Zillertal
The Zillertal Cycle Path is an easy, family-friendly route. Sections of this well signposted path actually follow the course of the River Ziller to Mayrhofen. Since the traditional Zillertalbahn accepts bikes, it is recommended using it on the return leg of your journey. Zillertal Alpine Road is regarded as one of the loveliest panoramic routes and is suitable for both mountain bikes and road bikes. The route heads steadily uphill in numerous steep bends, up to 2020 metres.
Fügen – Brandegg – Kühstein – Goglhof
This route is very much recommended and proceeds from the 'Festhall' building in Fügen. On this mountain bike ride In Zillertal proceed through the centre of Fügen to the junction to Äußeren Fügenberg.
At the art foundry Zillertal Metall you have to take a left heading uphill and follow the asphalt mountain road towards Gasthof Brandegg. Passing the Gasthof, this tour in Zillertal continues to the Goglhof/Baumannwies junction, where you take a left heading towards Gasthof Goglhof. From the Goglhof, the path proceeds across the old Fügenbergstraße (gravel) back to the starting point again.
This circular route can also be ridden in the opposite direction; however this way is more difficult due to the steep gravel path heading to the Goglhof.
Fügen – Geolsalm / Gartalm
The start of this cycle tour in Zillertal is the 'Festhalle' in Fügen. From there, proceed via Pankrazbergstraße, then via Hochfügener Straße to the Hochfügen/intermediate station junction. Here, take a right turn during your mountain bike ride in Zillertal and head for the Spieljochbahn intermediate station. Pass the intermediate station. The route then proceeds to the Spieljoch mountain station.
After the ski lodge, the path branches off on a section beneath the Spieljoch mountain station heading for the Geolsalm and Gartalm. The return section takes you to the crossing and the Spieljoch mountain station on the same route. Turn off at the crossing and head to the Spieljochbahn mountain station, then after a short uphill section, head down to Arzjochkapelle and on to the Kaunzalm.
The route proceeds through Öxltal, heading to Fügenberg again. Via Äußerer Fügenberg, pass the Brandegg snack station and head back to Fügen.
